For a real breath of fresh air and a park view to boot, then head up to the 29th floor of the super trendy Sofitel So. Inside is for fine dining on international cuisine, while out on the rooftop, it’s all about cocktails, lounge tunes and the striking view. Expect modern takes on French recipes, such as the pan-seared trout with bouillabaisse sauce or the slow braised lamb shank with eggplant caviar. They also do a five-course chef's menu.

If you’ve still not checked out the decadent rooftop cocktail lounge at Mahanakhon Cube then you’re really missing out. The drinks are superb, mixed by classically trained Japanese bartender Hideyuki Saito, while the food (all small plates at surprisingly accessible prices) comes courtesy of Vincent Thierry, the French chef who led Hong Kong’s Caprice to three Michelin stars. The 1920s-inspired decor with its plum leather, bronze and acres of marble is also a sight to behold.

The panoramic rooftop view at this under-the-radar Sathorn bar might just be one of the best in Bangkok, taking in three bends in the Chao Phraya River and three bridges. But this isn’t somewhere to pop in for one drink and leave (though if you do, the Strawberry Cheese Cake Martini comes highly recommended); there’s also a vast food menu, covering Mexican, Moroccan, French and Asian specialties.
