American folk singer-songwriter Bon Iver's first album, For Emma, Forever Ago, was called one of the best break-up albums by Rolling Stone back in 2007. Now the performer known for hits like "Skinny Love" and "Holocene" brings his one-man-band sad act to Southeast Asia. It's possible a bit too late to book your ticket to Singapore as the guy will perform there at The Star Theatre this Friday (Feb 26), but he'll also be in The Philippines on Mar 3 as part of Wanderland Music and Art Festival.
Anothony Gonzalez, the French multi-instrumentalist better known as M83, brings his electronic wall of noise to Asia this May. The guy behind the massive cross-over hit "Midnight City" has built up a big catalogue of critically acclaimed albums and fans will also be keen to hear tracks like "Don't Save Us from the Flames" and "Kim & Jessie." We're still holding out hope for a last-minute Bangkok gig, but otherwise you can pick from Hong Kong (May 4), Kuala Lumpur (May 7) or Jakarta (May 21).
Towards the end of last year, Irish troubadour Damien Rice stopped by Southeast Asia for Singapore's Neon Lights and Hong Kong's Clockenflap festivals. If you missed out, here’s another chance to watch him perform tracks like “Cannonball” and "The Blower's Daughter" live in Singapore again on Jun 4. We're also hearing strong whispers of a Bangkok visit.
Another act making a quick return the region after last year’s Clockenflap is experimental beatmaker Steven Ellison aka Flying Lotus. He’ll be performing at The Coliseum Singapore on May 26 where he'll no doubt be mixing in some new material alongside tracks from his last album You’re Dead! like "Never Catch Me" (most likely sans Kendrick Lamar, unfortunately).
These Australian psychedelic rockers go from strengh to strength. Their last album, Currents, saw them take their '70s prog-indebted sound in exciting new directions. But Bangkok indie kids still have to skip town to catch them, as the band have announced a gig in Singapore on Apr 21 before joining Urbanscapes Festival in KL two days afterwards (Apr 23). Expect new hits like “The Less I Know The Better” and “Yes I’m Changing” along with classics like "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" and "Elephant."
