This summer is heating up for indie lovers, with confirmed visits from the likes of Deerhoof, Mystery Jets, Postiljonen and Architecture in Helsinki. And things could get even better (see below).

Explosions in the Sky (Apr 29)
If brooding tracks like “Your Hand in Mine” or “First Breath after Coma” mean anything to you, Moon Star Studio is the place to be this April 29. Formed in Austin, Texas, in 1999, post-rock masters Explosions in the Sky will treat an adoring Bangkok audience to their self-described “cathartic minisymphonies” drawn from their six studio albums, including the critically-acclaimed Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place.

Postiljonen (May 10)
Gig organizer Popscene imports the dream pop trio from Stockholm to play 80s-inspired tracks like “Atlantis,” “Supreme” and “All That We Had Is Lost,” with support from hot local acts De Connextor, Cut the Crab and Cloud Behind.

The Cairos (May 16)
Just a week after the Swedish pop act, Australian indie rock 'n' roll four piece The Cairos will celebrate their new album Dream Of Reason at Cosmic Café, supported by local acts Deadtown Trash and The Sangsom Massacre. Ticket is at the door (B500 incl. 1 beer).

Godung's first gig this year comes as a mini fest boasting a lineup that's headed by highly-rated Australian electro pop band Architecture in Helsinkl at Moonstar StudioThe multi-instrumental five-piece recently released their fifth studio album, Now + 4Eva, which has spawned bright and creative MVs for the tracks “Dream a Little Crazy” and “I Might Survive.” Joining the Aussies are British indie-pop/rockers Mystery Jets and Indonesian must-watch electro-pop quartet Agrikulture. Early bird tickets are now available at B1,500 at Thaiticketmajor through Apr 30 while prices will jump to B2,000 (May 1-17) and B2,500 at door.

Deerhoof Live at Harmonica (Jun 17, 8pm)
Formed in San Francisco way back in 1994, the noise-pop quartet Deerhoff has won fans and plaudits for their unpredictable stage antics and tracks like “Panda Panda Panda” and “Chandelier Searchlight.” Now Bangkokians get to find out what all the fuss is about.

Rumor mill:

  • Popscene's Jimmy Livewire: "Bangkok, Andy Rourke, bass player of legendary Manchester outfit, The Smiths, might want to come and DJ for you. Would you be up for that? How many of you would come??"

  • Things have been a bit quiet from the indie organizer Have You Heard?, who brought us indie luminaries Unmortal Orchestra and Mac DeMarco last year, though there has been talk of names like Warpaint and Slowdive being enticed to Bangkok. Nothing official.

  • Many fingers have to be crossed for this rumor. Alex Turner's Arctic Monkeys have been mentioned as coming to Bangkok many times over the past few years, with a few fake posters even popping up on social networks. This year, we've heard some folks are seriously looking at the possibilty of bringing the band to Thailand. Godung, Sonic Bang, we're looking at you.
