FAIRS: 35th Thai Teaw Thai Fair

For a taste of the Thonglor nightlife scene, head over to Badmotel on Jul 3 for the SuperrZaaap! 7th Year Anniversary Mega Hits! Party. The first floor will turn into a Thai ‘90s waikanong nightclub featuring DJs Scoobydoo and YP, while the music up on the second-floor High Voltage Pop-Up Club will be provided by Japanese guest DJ Monkey Timers and the crew’s resident DJs.

NIGHTLIFE: Red Bull Thre3Style Thailand 2015

After a long search for the best DJ talents in town, the final round of Thailand’s Red Bull Thre3Style 2015 will take place this Saturday, Jul 4. Route 66 (RCA, Rama 9 Rd., 02-203-0936) will be the stage as selected DJs Spydamonkee, Dragon, Maiam, Nutty, Tnt, Bomber Selecta, Zlexii and Jedie battle it out for the title of champion over 15-minute sets that must incorporate at least three musical genres. The national champions will compete at the world finals later this year. Entry is B300, and doors open at 8:30pm.

GIGS: Pow! Fest

Parinam Music's first official mini-music festival Pow! Fest takes over Live House BKK this Jul 4, kicking off at 3:30pm. Organized by live music organizer Seen Scene Space, the stage will be packed with local indie acts to watch like Gym & Swim, Slur, Summer Dress, Seal Pillow, Aire, Hariguem Zaboy, Wave and So, Fwends and Safe Planet, plus a set by Japanese act The Fin. ART: Proximity: Part 2

This collaborative project between Inspiracje International Visual Art Festival, 13 MUZ and the BACC brings over the works of 11 contemporary Polish artists, comprising installations, photography and video art that deal with unconventional issues.

ART: Signs

A series of street photographs by local artist Akkara Naktamna, who captures nightmarish, apocalyptic messages through the objects of everyday life, as though they were scenes from a horror sci-fi movie. MARKETS: TGIF Market: Checkmate

Despite the rain, July promises to be another big month for Bangkok fashionistas (see our roundup here). For starters, TGIF Market will return at one of the newest popup venues, Quartier Hall at EmQuartier this Jul 4-5 under the theme Checkmate. Expect over 200 stalls of leading fashion brands like Isawan, Something Boudoir, Mimi by Milin (pictured), Mywishlist and multi-brand pop-ups like Fablab and SOS. You’ve also got plenty of trendy food options close by at Helix Quartier.

THEATER: Iceberg

The Bangkok performing arts community is busy this rainy season. One of which is a restaging of veteran B-Floor director Ka-ge Teerawat Mulvilai’s controversial production Iceberg from Jul 7-18 as part of the Monsoon Theater Program at B-Floor Room. Tickets are B490.

CONCERTS: Machine Head Live in Bangkok

The veteran heavy metal band from Oakland are on an extended world tour this second half of the year, making stops in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. This will be their debut live show in Bangkok. B1,800 tickets also available at the door.

THEATER: According to Marguerite Duras

One of the shows launching at the beginning of this month is an experimental performance of “An Epilogue to the Malady of Death,” along with a series of film screenings dedicated to the French playwright of the ‘60s-’90s, According to Marguerite Duras, at Thonglor Art Space.

MEETUPS: The Colours - Creative Collaboration

The first Kinfolk gathering event in Thailand, featuring two days of food, art installations, music, conversations and networking under the theme "In Praise of Slowness." Day 1 is the Kinfolk Gathering Dinner (B4,500), a five-course dinner designed by Gai Lai Mitwichan, with live music by Jacopo Gianninoto, an art installation by F.A.C.T. and an open discussion on "slowness." OPERA: The Snow Dragon

Recently premiered in the US to rave reviews, this is the latest production by renowned Thai-American composer Somtow Sucharitkul, known for his contemporary take on opera. Sponsored by Skylight Music Theatre (Milwaukee, USA), Department of Cultural Promotion and Opera Siam, the fantasy opera is a short story of an abused young boy and a troubled counsellor who enter an imaginary world filled with dragons and princesses. This is said to be the composer's best production to date.

FILM: A Design Film Festival

Launched in Singapore back in 2010, A Design Film Festival will be making a stop in Bangkok this Jul 18-26 at TCDC. Previously shown in Portland, Berlin, Taipei and Kaohsiung, the film fest focuses on films related to architecture, fashion, photography, street art, motion graphics, technology and the subcultures of design. Some of the official selections for Bangkok include: Capital C, Dior and I, Print the Legend and the Asia premiere of Time Zero: The Last Year of Polaroid Film. CONCERTS: Soundbox: Music to be Heard

A brand new touring live music series powered by Live Nation, a group aiming to promote cutting-edge music across Asia. The first edition in Bangkok features the niche American "schizophrenic" pop duo Twenty One Pilots, the "Samurai" Japanese rock singer-songwriter/guitarist Miyavi (also known from Angelina Jolie's 2014 film Unbroken) and local hip-hop DJ Ono.

THEATER & DANCE: Cirque Du Soleil Quidam Live in Bangkok 2015

The world's most legendary circus premieres its first show in Thailand. Under the tutelage of director Franco Dragone, the ninth edition of the show takes you into the imaginary world of Zoey, a girl who wishes to escape her mundane daily life. Expect acrobatic artistry from over 100 performers along with exceptional sound and stage production. Eleven rounds of performances, with 4:30pm rounds from Jul 30-Aug 2.
