Extreme Makeover: Wong Wian Yai edition. The busy Wong Wian Yai circle is scheduled for a makeover in an effort to make the surrounding area more beautiful—however, beauty is not the only concern here. Along with a new design, nine footbridges that block the view of the famous landmark at Thon Buri will be replaced by new pedestrian underpasses. The underpasses will provide pedestrians with a safer place to walk, and hopefully, with some culturally enriching experiences as well. They are said to be big enough to accommodate cultural and historical “exhibitions,” which the city hopes will encourage tourism in the area. Though the makeover could improve the area in terms of safety and in beauty, the final approval on the project will not happen until sometime next year.
