While we’re now proud owners of the title of World Book Capital for 2013, we must admit we never thought anything concrete would come from the accolade. It seems like we were wrong, though, with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration recently agreeing to rent a well-located historic building at Khok Wua intersection on Ratchadamnoen Klang, with the aim of turning it into the new City Library. Amorn Kitchawengkul, deputy governor, revealed that that they will spend around B200 million on the renovation and development of the library, which they plan on opening 24 hours a day so that all those insatiable readers you see devouring books on the BTS will have somewhere to go at three in the morning.
