This Sunday (Feb 10) is Chinese New Year and, outside of Bangkok, no other place is celebrating the event quite so extravagantly as Nakhon Sawan, home to a centuries-old Chinese community. This year, they are celebrating Pak Nam Pho Chinese New Year over a full twelve days and nights, starting from last week and ending on Valentine’s Day (Feb 14). Expect stage performances, live music showcases and a 4D light and sound show; but the true highlight is the parades of dragon and lion floats, some of Thailand’s biggest, on Feb 12-13. These will take place all over town but the best spots to catch the spectacle may well be along Sawan Withi and Matulee roads, starting from 6am. Meanwhile in Suphanburi, the Chinese New Year also marks the 38th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relationships, featuring acrobatic and cultural shows from China. The event is taking place at the Dragon Descendants Museum, from today till Feb 12, 6-10pm.
