Peppina, the pizza and carne specialist which opened on Sukhumvit Soi 31 in mid-2014 to wide acclaim, has confirmed it will be opening a long-awaited second venue.

But rather than hitting one of the other central districts like Silom—itself a current hotbed of good pizzerias—founder Paolo Vitaletti is moving his uncompromising approach to authentic Neapolitan-style pizza upriver.

A tentative opening date has been set for three weeks' time at Tha Maharaj, the riverside community mall near the Grand Palace composed of restored shop-houses and a spacious promenade.

The new menu, says Vitaletti, will be much like the original Peppina only shorter, and the restaurant itself is already very near completion.

We'll be keen to see how well the concept scales, given the stories of what lengths Vitaletti went to to ensure his pizza met the arcane standards of Italy's Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana when Peppina first opened. The fact that right now he's planning one last trip to Italy to iron out final details promises good things.
