Crab and Claw

This one's all about New England-style seafood. Don your bib and prepare to get your hands dirty by digging, hammering and cracking into shellfish dishes like the whole Maine lobster and buckets of crabs, or keep it neat with lobster thermidor, crab roll (chilled peekytoe crab on a bun), clam chowder and oyster rockefeller. The Dock

Along with a huge list of oysters charting such prestigious names as Tsarskaya, Gillardeau, Belon, and Fine De Claire, you will also find a whole list of other premium seafood at this elegant market style restaurant, from Australian Spencer Gulf King Prawns and New Zealand Ora King Salmon to Scottish Loch Duart Salmon and Alaskan King Crab. The restaurant itself is a nautical blend of dangling ropes, netting, and seafood held tantalizingly in two live tanks.

The Lobster Lab

Thammachart Seafood, the seafood importer whose products are available at supermarkets all over Bangkok, and also the group behind The Dock counter restaurant at EmQuartier and Paragon, zeroes in on one specific ingredient at its latest kiosk at The Commons. Named The Lobster Lab, the place serves freshly-caught lobster from either Canada or Maine. The star lobster rolls (B690) feature 60g of lobster meat stuffed inside a house-made brioche, topped with a choice of New England-style mayonnaise, tom yum-inspired sauce or Mexican-style sauce and served with a side of fries. Of course, you can also get a whole steamed lobster at B1,690 (700-800g) with garlic-butter or spicy seafood sauce, as well as oak-smoked lobster salad (B690), lobster chowder (B290) and lobster spaghetti (B690). Refresh with a cloudy lemonade (B150).

The Oyster Bar

Bill Marinelli has a serious incentive for Bangkok to switch to the kind of sustainable fisheries and oyster farms he exports from the USA and Canada. But it’s hard to disagree with an oyster from Nootka Sound that’s “plump and rich, with a sweet, cucumber like finish” or one from Samish Bay that’s “fat and lustrous.” Flown in twice a week from North America, his bounty also includes king and snow crab, lobsters, mussels and clams.

The Raw Bar

Diners who want to sample fresh oysters in a dining room with the feel of a ship below decks need look no further than this renovated shophouse on Soi Thonglor, where a wide variety of fresh oysters, carpaccio (thinly sliced raw meat), ceviche (Peruvian-style sea-food salad), live Maine lobsters and tataki (seared slices of meat) dishes crowd the menu alongside a selection of cocktails and wine.
