Very little going on in the capital in the TPL this weekend, with just two matches on Sunday. Army United have the perfect opportunity to ease their increasing relegation concerns when nearby TOT visit the Army Stadium in Din Daeng. The Soldiers are now just five points above the drop zone and just four in front of struggling TOT who were thrashed 4-0 at Osotspa last weekend. However, TOT have also recorded wins over Thai Port and Bangkok Glass recently and will come looking for three points as they bid to beat the drop again. The other Bangkok match is at the Thephasadin Stadium as BEC Tero host Police United. Tero will move up to fourth if they can better Bangkok Glass’s result this weekend; however, Police will be just one point behind Tero if they can claim all three points. This one has ‘draw’ written all over it.
On Saturday, Bangkok Glass and Muangthong have away dates at Siam Navy and Samut Songkhram respectively, while Thai Port are at TTM Phichit on Sunday. The fixture list is completed by Chiang Rai v Khon Kaen and Siracha v Pattaya, both on Sunday.
There’s a little more going on in Division 1 as Bangkok FC host Suphanburi at the Bang Mod Stadium (4pm, Sat). ‘The Bulligans’ (yes, really!) have recently done their survival hopes the power of good with back-to-back wins over Air Force United and Chainat. Weirdly, this will be The Bulligans (we just can’t stop saying it now!) fifth home game in a row. Also at 4pm on Saturday, Thai Honda host Chainat. Honda are in deep relegation trouble, which probably won’t be helped after the visit of high-flying Chainat. On Sunday, Bangkok United welcome bottom-of-the-table RBAC to the Thai-Japanese Stadium. We are happy to report that United have now decided to stay in Din Daeng and will not be returning to Bangkok University in Pathum Thani. Our cynicism was misplaced! Also playing on Sunday: Air Force United are at Samut Prakan Customs (4pm), BBCU travel to PTT Rayong and JW Rangsit are at Songkhla.
A final word must go to the Bangkok Division of the Regional League. This weekend is the last round of fixtures before the play-offs against teams from other regions start. Kasetsart University have already won the division and will be joined in the play-offs by North Bangkok. Each of the sides will go into a separate group of six, and the top two from each group will be promoted to Division 1. The draw will be made in Ratchaburi on 5th October and the matches will be played between October and December. In the pick of this weekend’s final set of fixtures (all kicking off at 4pm on Saturday), champions Kasetsart are at Nonthaburi, North Bangkok host Raj-Vithi (Army Stadium, Din Daeng), Chamchuri host Globlex (Chulalongkorn Uni’ Stadium) and Bangkok Christian are at home to Assumption Thonburi (Thephasadin Stadium).
