Thanks to a new service from Plan B, your next bus ride might not be so boring. Officially launched today, ON Free Bus WiFi has already been installed on more than 500 Euro II buses in Bangkok and surrounding areas.

First-time users must fill out an online registration form (just look for “On Wi-Fi” on your smartphone) with mobile number, gender and date of birth, and then they will receive a password via SMS. Offering both 3G and 4G capability (depending on where you are), the service provides speeds of 20-42 mbps. Up to 20 people on any one bus will be able to access the Wi-Fi at the same time.

So, what's the catch? Well, you don’t have to pay for the Wi-Fi, but once you log in, an ad will automatically appear on your screen and you'll be forced to watch it for 15-30 seconds. Also, users will only be able to log in for 10 minutes at a time before having to repeat the process again.

The following bus lines have already installed the service on some of their vehicles (all air-conditioned): A1, A2, 3, 16, 23, 26, 36, 39, 49, 50, 59, 60, 63, 70, 73, 79, 80, 84, 102, 129, 138, 140, 145, 168, 204, 206, 503, 505, 509, 510, 511, 514, 515, 522, 555 and 556.
