The first station in the BTS Skytrain extension of the Sukhumvit line is now open.

Trial runs between BTS Bearing and the first station on the line, BTS Samrong, launched on Mar 15 and will continue until Apr 2, after which the train servicing the whole Sukhumvit line will end at BTS Samrong (starting Apr 3).

BTS Samrong is the first station on the Bearing-Samut Prakarn extension, and is part of the BTS Green Line's expansion to the outskirts of Bangkok.

The whole extension to Samut Prakan is planned to open within 2018. It's also designed to link with other metro lines in the future including the MRT Yellow Line.

The Bearing-Samut Prakarn BTS connection project aims to provide a more convenient way to travel between the two cities as well as to promote property development outside of central Bangkok.

Currently, the trial train is free to ride between Bearing and Samrong, and will remain so for the whole of April when proper service commences on Apr 3.
