The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has confirmed construction of the new MRT Grey Line, which will start in 2014 and take around two or three years to complete. It will run from Vatcharapol to Rama 9 bridge and connect with the BTS at Thong Lor station. The Grey MRT line is only the first in a series of monorail construction projects the BMA hopes to complete over the next few years—there are supposedly three planned monorail routes—so here’s hoping it will reduce rush hour traffic a bit. But that’s not all—after years of commuters dodging cars, sidestepping tuk tuks and avoiding motorcycle taxis to travel between the MRT and the Airport Link, construction for a skywalk and escalator has finally begun. This means commuters and airport-goers will have safer access to the Petchaburi MRT or Makkasan Airport link, and that getting to the airport and back on a budget just got a whole lot easier.
