BANGKOK VENUE

Bestminton Square

Buzz: Set over 6000-square-meters, opposite Paradise Park, this new lifestyle sports center looks like a community mall from the outside, but Bestmintorn Square serves up sports venues instead of chain restaurants. Launched by Julalak Ponpipom, one of the girl’s behind men’s fashion brand Buttons Up, it boasts 18 standard badminton courts, a dance studio in collaboration with her friend from Chasse Studio and a boxing/fitness center, The Boxx by DJ PK, scheduled to open in March.

Décor: Just like a trendy community mall, the venue boasts a semi-industrial facade with plenty of black-coated cement. Inside, things look modern with a yellow wall lined with wooden rackets at one end that contrasts with the overall white theme. The main space out front offers seating, a small café and a Yonex sports equipment shop next to it.

Products/prices: There are 10 badminton courts in the blue zone (with 6 bleachers if you’re looking for somewhere to host a little tournament), six in the green zone with a little more privatcy and another two in the upstairs VIP room (with air-con and private bathroom). Prices start from B400/hr for a standard court and B1,000/hr for a VIP room. If you live in the area, you might want to shell out on a package, which ranges from B3,400/10 hours (valid 30 days) up to B12,000/50 hours (valid 180 days) for a standard room, while VIP goes from B9,600/10 hours (valid 30 days) to 33,000/50 hours (valid180days). Dance classes cover hip hop, ballet, jazz and yoga with prices from B500/class or B5,000/course (12 classes).

Why you’ll come back: If you live in the area, it’s a cool little spot to stay in shape. Given that it’s not that far a drive from Sukhumvit, Bestminton can also be a fun weekend destination with your group of friends.
