These venues are just a snapshot of soi 49-63’s booming coffee shop culture, which has even begun spreading to the other side of Sukhumvit.

Broccoli Revolution

With its high ceilings, abundant natural light and jungle of ferns barely clinging to the ceiling, this modern vegan restaurant (no meat, eggs, dairy, oyster sauce or fish sauce) stands out from its backpacker-oriented peers. Don’t miss the broccoli quinoa charcoal burger with potato, sweet potato and taro fries, or the vegan desserts from trusted names like Veganerie, Theera and Farm to Table.

The Commons

Easygoing daytime bites and excellent coffee take center stage at Thonglor’s loft-like, open-plan community mall. Packed with Bangkok’s coolest foodie names, the ground floor marketplace spans vendors including Peppina (pizza), Roots (coffee), Meat & Bones (ribs) and so much more. Those looking to waste an entire afternoon park up at Roast, where the brunch-focused menu (and excellent wine list) is hard to beat.

335 Thonglor Soi 17, 089-152-2677. Open daily 11am-midnight

This tranquil, double-height temple to brunch culture does it all. Want a lazy eggy breakfast? They’ve got you covered from 6am. Burgers and comfort food? Kitchen’s open for business at 8am. An elaborate three-course dinner? They’ll whip one of those up too, with an a la carte menu of elegant starters and mains.

Piman 49, 46 Sukhumvit Soi 49, 02-662-7900. Open daily 8am-10pm

Ekkamai Macchiato

The star espresso at this cozy Ekkamai home is made using a Thai-Ethiopian-Brazilian blend from local roaster Bottomless, while the more adventurous will gravitate to the filter coffee’s rotating selection of single-origin beans from top-notch local roasters such as Roots. Not so serious about your coffee? Down one of their chocolate drinks, green tea lattes, iced teas or fruit shakes. You can also head upstairs with your laptop and make use of their co-working space.

6/2 Ekkamai Soi 12, 083-785-9090. Open Mon 8am-7pm; Wed 8am-7pm; Thu 8am-7pm; Fri 8am-7pm; Tue 8am-5pm; Sat-Sun 9am-7pm

Ink & Lion Cafe

Espresso machine and hand-brewed coffee are poured in an industrial setting adorned with art pieces, bare bricks and wooden furniture. Barista-owner Adithep Pinijpinyo even roasts his beans in-house both for espresso and filter coffee. Munch on pastries like the lemon tart and coconut cake, made by Size S Coffee & Bakery, while taking a peek at the rotating exhibitions. Don’t miss the fresh butter waffles.

1/7 Ekkamai Soi 2, 02-002-6874. BTS Ekkamai. Open Sat-Wed 9am-6pm

Kaizen Coffee Co.

Ekkamai’s quiet end is home to the all-white coffee enterprise of three (fittingly hip) buddies who were fascinated by Australia’s coffee scene. Here, the brews go well beyond long black and flat white, nonetheless (this is Bangkok, after all.) You can expect nitrogen-brewed coffee along with tea, experimental health drinks and a brunchy menu of bacon and eggs on ciabbata or tomatoes, avocado and feta on sourdough.

Tai Ping Tower, 582/5 Ekkamai Soi 26 and 28, 061-714-9974. Open daily 8am-6pm

Nikko Cafe

This zen-inspired cafe with its striking indoor rock garden and vaulted ceilings kickstarted Ekkamai Soi 12’s transformation into a cafe-hopper’s dream. Take your iced matcha latte or chocolate frappe alongside delicately portioned Thai fried snacks or healthy Japanese salads. The shady roof terrace is perfect for sipping on their fresh iced tea during cooler months.

30/18 Soi Charoen Chai, Ekkamai Soi 12, 02-318-5291. Open daily 10am-10pm

Indie star House Sorasak runs this multi-label men’s fashion store and hub of all things cool. Visit the pocket-sized cafe for the coffee rather than the food (mostly just small bites and baked goods) thanks to their long ties with Brave Roaster. The attached clothing boutique is dedicated to cult imported brands like Saturdays Surf NYC, Beton x Cire and Stanley & Sons, as well as the odd vintage item.

19/12 Ekkamai Soi 12, 02-116-6076. Open Mon-Fri 9am-6pm; Sat-Sun 9am-8pm

Nineteenth-century botanical gardens inspired this cleansing, plant-life-filled spa dripping with colonial charm. Guests can pick from full-body massages or a healthy meal at the on-site cafe. The menu sees bruschetta topped with everything from peaches to avocado, alongside lighter veggie dishes like the roast carrots with garlic sauce. Even the Tropical Sunrise pudding is a guilt-free blend of yogurt, chia seeds and granola.

6/F, Piman 49, Sukhumvit Soi 49, 02-665-1899. Open Mon-Thu 9am-8:30pm; Fri-Sun 9am-9pm

Pacamara Coffee Roasters

The fifth cafe from the Chiang Mai-hailing coffee roasters Pacamara is also its flagship branch. Tucked down a little alley off Thonglor Soi 25, the two-story standalone house is divided into a cafe and a coffee academy. You’ll find both classic espresso-based drinks as well as slow-bar coffee, made using rotating beans roasted in- house. Do try specials like the snow cold brew (shaved frozen milk on coffee jelly, topped with a shot of cold brew coffee), refreshing cola-infused cold brew and nitro cold brew. They also serve brunch dishes like truffle eggs Benedict as well as burgers, pasta and ribs.

Thonglor Soi 25, 090-930-9340. Open Mon-Fri 8am-7:30pm; Sat-Sun 8am-9pm

The light and airy, sun-drenched dining room of Toby’s has brought brunch nirvana to leafy Sukhumvit Soi 38. Crowds pack out the blond-wood chairs for Aussie-inspired, produce-driven plates of avocado salad and grilled halloumi with cherry tomatoes. Leave room for the succulent brioche soaked in beaten eggs and coated in cornflakes—as well as all the coffee and cold-pressed juices.

75 Sukhumvit Soi 38, 02-712-1774. BTS Thonglor. Open Tue-Sun 9am-10:30pm

Warm Wood Cafe

The homey interior of exposed brick, distressed wood and plenty of potted plants comes courtesy of Be Gray (who else?), while the menu is no less daytime friendly. Tuna salad, ebiko cream pasta and ribeye steak provide proper stomach-fillers, while there’s an equal focus on the fluffy, chocolatey souffle and—our favorite—the airy churros, accompanied by spot-on yuzu and chocolate dips. Sip on sangria as well as coffee and yogurt smoothies.
