BANGKOK BAR

Aire Bar

A laid-back, alfresco bar beside Benjasiri Park.

The buzz: Hyatt Place enters the rooftop-bar fray with this no-frills, Benjasiri Park-view venue that’s ideal for after-work drinking.

The decor: They’ve clearly emphasized the view here, which, given its 28th-floor vantage, was a good idea. The decor is unobtrusive industrial, with tile floors and raw concrete walls bordered in hanging greens. The elevators open right onto the bar, a good place to start before dividing onto one of the two long terraces. You can get a bar stool right up against the glass edge or opt for the wicker chairs arranged around round tables. The general vibe is laid-back, making this a good anytime bar, where you’ll never feel under- or over-dressed.

The drinks: First off, all signature cocktails are B280, which in the world of rooftop bars is a steal. We can probably thank the menu consulting of booze experts Bootleggers for the cocktails here, which are two twists beyond typical hotel libations. The North Star is a fruity, Plantation rum-based cocktail that combines pineapple, lime, vanilla, pomegranate syrup, soda and aromatic bitters. The raspberry-heavy Sazzle mixes the fruit with Broker’s Gin, vodka, lime, sugar, soda and kaffir lime leaf to temper the sweetness. The wine list won’t disappoint either, with over 30 labels and bottles starting at B1,000 for Prosecco Follador, Extra Dry, Veneto, Italy, NV.

The food: Western bar snacks like the charcuterie plate (B390); chili hummus and pita bread (B220); and olives, semi sundried tomatoes and feta cheese with rye bread (B320).

The crowd: Currently, some combination of in-house guests and happy couples sipping drinks after work.

The music: Live DJs on Friday and Saturday from 9pm, spinning house, R‘n’B and hip-hop. The Voice star Suay Soracha also brings her husky, power vocals to the venue every Friday (6-10pm) and Sunday (3-6pm).

Why you should care: A central location, affordable drinks and top-of-the-line views puts this bar on our radar next time we’re looking for laid-back, al fresco drinking with colleagues.
