SHANGHAI RESTAURANT

Moonsha

Expert chefs grill and fry at this upmarket teppanyaki restaurant on the Bund. Using only the finest quality meat and fish, Moonsha is one of the best teppanyaki places in town.

This dark, marble clad Teppanyaki restaurant, with a Bund-facing bar, intricate interior design and a fair amount of flash, fits neatly into the new mold of the riverfront restaurant. There are glassed-in wine cabinets and a long list of cocktails, and a lounge with room for 200 with live music and djs. In the rear lies the teppanyaki room, where diners sit in high-backed leather chairs, communing around the large teppans manned by dextrous, spatula wielding chefs. They offer daily appetizers, soups, sashimi plates and sushi rolls to start, but ultimately Moonsha is all about the meat: lobsters, Kobe-style beef and big, blue tiger prawns are ushered to the cooking station on clean white plates by the efficient waitstaff. Depending on the quality of the meat you order and the variety of sea creatures, set meals here range from just under ¥500 to roughly ¥4000. The service was smooth on our visit, the beef was meltingly tender, and the soft chairs in the dimly lit lounge bar made for a perfect after-dinner drink.
