BANGKOK RESTAURANT

Hoi Chinese Izakaya

This “Chinese izakaya” is not your run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant.

Set on Sukhumvit Soi 51, sandwiched between Studio Lam and Homeburg, Hoi is accessible through a sort of hidden entrance in the alleyway. Once you find it, make your way upstairs to an industrial-style loft that takes on an izakaya vibe, decked out with black tables, gray splattered walls, and views of the street below.

Don’t expect giant portions here. The food here is meant to be shared among small groups, almost tapas-like. Menu starters include fried golden needle mushrooms (B98), hot and sour soup made Sichuan-style (B138), and the popular moutai chicken (B168), an herbaceous “drunken” chicken.

Other filling options include Singapore-style prawns slathered in a vibrant chili sauce (B198), wok-fried tofu with black pepper sauce (B118), and the fall-off-the-bone beef shank claypot rice (B168), made with Thai-French beef. Pair these with their stir-fried green beans topped with crispy garlic and fresh chili (B118).

The restaurant is open for dine-in now and is also available for delivery via Lineman.
