On a recent trip to Samui, we discovered a private museum on the banks of Pru Chaweng Lake that houses a vast collection of prehistoric items. The story goes that ML Arachawa Worawan, a veteran artist who designed one of Thailand’s first boutique hotels, Muang Kulaypan, turned his villa-cum-restaurant into a private museum exhibiting prehistoric Ban Chiang Thai ceramics and pottery in a bid to prove that Thai people have been here for thousands of years. Historical artifacts include stone knives, axes, pots and jewelry aged from 3,000BC to 1,900AD. Open by appointment only, entry is currently free. Contact 088-249-3901 or privatemuseum@hotmail.com.
