Moxy Hotels (www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/bdoox-moxy-bandung), the funky, playful sibling of hotelier Marriot Internationals, has finally expanded to Asia.

Its landing ground is Bandung, Indonesia, a city in a lush valley surrounded by volcanic mountains and famous for its enduring Dutch-colonial architecture.

Moxy’s check-in desk is actually a bar, which about sums up this boutique hotel’s philosophy. Linger at check-in over your complimentary cocktail, or head up to the rooftop bar for a drink with a view.

The young and hip will feel right at home in the graffitied common room. The decor is a bold, neon reinvention of run-of-the-mill industrial-chic, a nice contrast to the neoclassical face of the building.

The 109 rooms subscribe to the same aesthetics with their industrial furniture, hardwood floors, and textured grey walls. Moxy trades floor space for functionality (no closets here), a 43’’ LCD flat-screen, and affordability.

Room rates start at (brace yourselves) a mere B1,224/night.
