Ibiza's legendary Cafe Del Mar (063-081-2488, www.cafedelmarphuket.com) beach club makes its Thailand debut on Phuket's Kamala Beach.

You know the drill: a pool sits surrounded by fancy sunbeds and a bar, while the lounge extends right to the sands. Jazz and tropical house tunes set the scene during the day, with underground techno taking over later on.

Founded in 1980, Cafe Del Mar is also synonymous with the series of chillout compilation albums of the same name, which it's been releasing since 1994. In keeping with this tradition, the Phuket opening is promising visits from lots of international DJs.

While the hotel and fine-dining restaurant parts of the project won't be complete until the end of 2017, there's already a beach bar menu that covers international, Thai and Japanese ground, from tuna tartare (B220) to cold seafood platters (B1,590) to Thai-style seafood salad (B320).

Drinks wise, there's a huge list of spirits, wines and classic cocktails. More experimental concoctions include the Southern Hospitality (lemongrass, chili and kaffir leaf-infused Stolichnaya vodka, Mahiki coconut liquer, mango puree and coconut milk, B300) and Choco Clack (Flor de Cana Rum, chocolate ice-cream and sweet cappucino foam, B280).

Saturdays and Sundays see weekly pool parties starting early in the day. Entry is free, though there is a B1,000 minimum spend for use of the pool. However, we think Cafe Del Mar's biggest draw is the unbeatable sunset—head over around 5-6pm for the best seats.
