Once the manufacturing factory of the Camel vacuum flask brand, The Camlux Hotel (15 Wang Kwang Rd., Kowloon Bay, www.camluxhotel.com) is the first hotel to open in Kowloon Bay, a former industrial district on the east side of Kowloon that's being revitalized as a commercial and residential quarter.

Behind the seemingly plain exterior, the six-story hotel incorporates markers from the past in its interior, with 185 contemporary guest rooms decorated with vintage houseware products of the old factory.

The retro-modern lobby also plays around with materials like brass, copper, stainless steel, glass and colored plastics that were formerly used in the manufacture of vacuum flasks.

Don't worry about the slightly out-there location as the hotel is only a few minutes' walk from Kowloon Bay MTR station and also offers a complimentary shuttle bus service to the main shopping districts like Mongkok, Yau Ma Tei and Tsim Sha Tsui.
