This month, you'll have an opportunity to take a ride on a historic steam train whose operations date back to the '50s.

Nowadays, these special steam train daytrips operate only four times a year. In celebration of the SRT's anniversary on Saturday Mar 26, you can hop on the steam train for a journey to the ancient city of Ayutthaya. The steam train will depart from Hua Lamphong at 8am and arrive at Ayutthaya station at 10:30am.

A return trip is B250 per person. For a fully guided tour, it's B999, which includes an air-con bus ride to the historic temple of Wat Maheyong, a tour of the Pasak and Chao Phraya rivers, visits to Wat Mongkhon Bophit (adjacent to Wat Si Sanphet), the quaint Talad Gong Khong for some OTOP products, as well as Bang Pa In Summer Palace. It also covers breakfast and lunch, plus insurance. Passengers are scheduled to return to Bangkok by 7pm.

Places are still available. Reserve a seat now at 1690.

Not free that weekend? Special steam train trips will run again on Aug 12 (Mother's Day), Oct 23 (Chulalongkorn Day) and Dec 5 (Father's Day), heading towards nearby provinces like Chachoengsao and Nakhon Pathom. You can check the exact destination 60 days before each trip.

In the meantime, if you fancy some more slow-life train action, here are other popular daytrips you can take
