Yangon's nightlife has received a welcome boost with the opening of The Blind Tiger (www.blindtiger-yangon.com), which combines a tapas restaurant, mixology lounge and art gallery.

Tucked inside a restored old building, the venue takes its speakeasy theme pretty seriously. First, you have to follow a trail of tiger paw prints painted on the walls outside which lead you to a tiger mural, which doubles as the bar's entry. A secret sensor notifies staff inside, who look through a peep hatch before deciding whether to let you in.

Inside blends prohibition chic with urban touches through a flashy tiger-print bar, wooden tables and leather lounge chairs. Works of emerging and prominent local artists are displayed in the gallery area.

The full bar serves up drinks like the Spiked Tiger (tequila, fresh lime juice, chili and coriander, about B213) while the nibbles menu features ribs (B213), meatballs (B197) and artichoke dip (B182).
