Having arrived in Bangkok a decade ago, Japan's master of all things minimal, Muji, is only now giving us a flagship store to rival the behemoth lifestyle emporiums back in the motherland.

At one thousand square meters, the new space at CentralWorld is Muji's biggest in Bangkok yet, and goes beyond the pared-back basics of toiletries, stationery, kitchenware, clothing and bedding we've come to expect.

For the first time in Thailand, you can shop clothing lines like Found Muji, which borrows materials and techniques from around the world like Indian fabrics and works them into Muji's usual functional, minimalist designs; Muji Labo, whose takes on everyday basics come in neutral colors like white and beige; and ReMuji, which revives vintage garments through indigo dyeing techniques.

You'll also find the first Green Space, a corner devoted to plants ideal for tiny indoor gardens that'll make you want to redecorate your balcony. The only real let down? We're still left waiting for our first Muji Cafe.

In related news, design geeks can get the full picture at What is Muji, an exhibition at Central Embassy mall (G/F, Phloen Chit Rd.) that showcases Muji’s brand philosophy through a range of products. On show till Oct 1.
