Move over, Uncle Tetsu. 'Tis the season for cheesy Japanese desserts, with Emquartier welcoming Bake cheese tart and Paragon LeTao cheesecake, both of which hail from Hokkaido. Some Bangkokians may be familiar with LeTao’s goodies, as the rising sushi empire Sushi Hiro used to offer it (though they stopped importing it earlier this month and are now producing their own), but Bake is a completely new face.

At Paragon, the blue LeTao kiosk is located on the ground floor just in front of Swensen's, pulling in a crowd for its renowned double-fromage cheesecake (original and chocolate, 12cm diameter, B890), considered a must-try for any trip to Otaru city, along with other treats like Venezia Rendezvous (mascarpone cream cheese tart, B840) and Royal Montagne Darjeeling chocolate (B390/590).

Opposite Harrods Cafe on Emquartier’s ground floor, the yellow Bake kiosk is causing queues for its tarts filled with three different kinds of cheese. Originating in Sapporo, Bake cheese tart combines mild cream cheese from Hakodate and Betsukai in Japan with some saltier French cheese—the result being a thick and tasty cheese mousse. This Bangkok shop is its second outlet outside the motherland, after Hong Kong. The price for one the palm-sized tart is a fairly steep B80. For now, the shop limits the number of tarts to three per customer.
