The Rembrandt hotel’s Mexican restaurant, Mexicano, was one of the first Mexican restaurants to ever open in Bangkok (though back then it was called Senor Pico). Over time, Mexicano’s moved more towards down-the-line Mexican than Tex-Mex, but head chef Carlos Bravo isn’t afraid to throw his own specials on the menu that make use of the best imported produce.

Take his ribe eye taco with pan-fried foie gras, for example. You won’t find any premium goose liver being served on the street corners of Condesa, but the succulent texture and rich flavor empowers what’s some gloriously tender, premium beef.

For something more authentically Mexican, get the ox tongue taco, which they dress in a salsa made from morita chilis, known for being fruitier than chipotle peppers but still with a smoky kick. Here, they make the sauce in-house, daily.

As for seafood, grab the baked sea bass taco, which they serve with chorizo and pecorino cheese rice.

Visit on a Saturday between midday to 3pm for brunch (B800/person).

Mexicano (formerly Senor Pico), 1/F, Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok, 19 Sukhumvit Soi 18, Bangkok, 02-261-7100, Open daily 5pm-midnight; Sat noon-3pm
