For almost 15 years now, BK Magazine has been covering and supporting Bangkok's dining scene. One of our most-loved (and controversial) features is our weekly restaurant reviews (see BK Magazine Restaurant Reviews: Your Questions Answered). We've been known to stick the boot in, but unsuprisingly we actually take a lot more pleasure from an enjoyable dining experience. Four stars is as high as we, the reviewers, can go. It’s for totally awesome places. We don't give that fourth star out lightly. (Five stars is only for the annual Top Tables’ top 10, which is voted on by a panel of foodies and industry experts.) Of the 102 restaurants we reviewed in 2015, here are the only ones to achieve full marks not only for food, but also for service and atmosphere.  
 

Crab and Claw

We said: "Yes, it’s in a mall, it’s noisy, the service is patchy, but we quite enjoy the bustling nature of the place: half spruced-up Red Lobster, half seafood co-op. While Crab and Claw doesn’t come cheap, it does set the bar high for premium seafood that’s not only fresh but also organic and sustainable."

 

Benjarong

We said: "Benjarong’s lavish decor and five-star hotel service used to be the kind of thing connoiseurs of Thai cuisine would avoid like the plague. Except fancy, dainty Benjarong is currently one of the city’s best kitchens for genuine Thai flavors. It’s also one of the most inventive." 

 

Charcoal Tandoor Grill & Mixology

We said: "From the complimentary arrival condiments and papadums to the sinfully buttery dal charcoal (urad lentils, tomatoes, ginger and garlic), the spicing is consistently bold and well balanced." 

 

Paste (Gaysorn Plaza)

We said: "You can really feel husband and wife chefs Jason Bailey and Bongkoch Satongun’s creativity and personality in their food, which is not always the case at traditionalists like Nahm or Bo.lan. Dishes here remain clearly and authentically Thai, but also refreshingly unique."

 

Smokin' Pug

We said: "Compared to neighboring American barbecue places like Roadhouse, Smokin’ Pug is in a different league—tastier, similarly priced and with infinitely more charm." 

 

Lenzi Tuscan Kitchen

We said: "Ochre walls, dark wood columns, oxblood tufted leather seats—the place is as conventional as can be. The food, too, is aiming for tradition, regionalism and authenticity. But Lenzi Tuscan Kitchen is so satisfying we’d never call it boring." 

 

Peppina

We said: "You’d be equally at place coming here to spend B500 on a pizza and a beer as you would dropping B5,000 on a multi-course feast."
