The Suhring brothers' modern German restaurant Suhring has been named the 54th best restaurant in the world—the only Bangkok restaurant so far to be named in the 2018 World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.

If you're having difficulties adding up those numbers, bear in mind the title of "World's 50 Best" is misleading, as the annual list actually contains 100 restaurants—spots 1-50 will be announced at a ceremony in Bilbao, Spain, next week.

This year marks Suhring's debut in the global awards which launched in London back in 2002.

Twin German chefs Thomas and Mathias Suhring left Lebua’s long-established Mezzaluna, opened a restaurant dedicated to German fine dining on Yen Akat Road, and created a local sensation. After topping BK Magazine's own Top Tables for two years running, Suhring back in March roared into the top 10 of the 2018 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list, the regional spin-off of World's 50 Best.

As we wrote in Top Tables earlier this year, "Dishes such as brathering hausfrauenart and pfannkuchen are hardly duck confit and spaghetti carbonara in the familiarity stakes... but if the way Suhring renders them is anything to go by, then they should be."

Last year Thailand had two restaurants place in the World's 50 Best list—Gaggan at #7 and Nahm at #28.
