Poke is a classic Hawaiian fish dish that has recently had a surge in popularity among foodies, mostly due to the fun new take on the meal spreading across the United States.

Traditionally the focus is on the fish, which will only be lightly seasoned with soy sauce and onions. The trending poke bowls of late stray from the classics and combine popular ingredients like wasabi mayo and avocado on top of various seafoods.

Shari Shari in CentralWorld has always been on top of food trends, from its sushi burritos to the eggplant fries and, as of this week, it now also has its own rendition of poke bowls.

You have the choice of two bowl sizes (medium B220, large B250). The beginning of the customization process starts with the type of fish: salmon or tuna. From there you pick toppings, sauce and sprinkles.

Our personal favorite is a tuna and salmon poke bowl with wakame, edamame, ebiko, and avocado (+B10) with ponzu sauce and nori.

There are some other spots in Bangkok that have poke on their menu, from the high-end version at 22 Kitchen to the chirashi-style offering at Sushiden. But Shari Shari is the first time Bangkok has seen the kind of mainland U.S. poke currently taking the world by storm.

Shari Shari's poke bowls aren't what you'd expect to find in Hawaii either (which can come with traditional sides like warabi and lomi salmon), but they definitely nail the trending version of the dish.
