Black Box

Tuck into espresso-dusted tuna served with greens or poached eggs and duck confit waffles during a lazy brunch at this chic, black-tiled cafe. Owned by a group of bike enthusiasts, the space is also known for its freshly tossed salads and Western comfort food with a twist, like the chicken avocado sandwich. Don’t miss the great selection of coffee and cocktails.

Mahatun Plaza, 888/8-9 Phloen Chit Rd., 02-651-5188. BTS Phloen Chit. Open daily 7:30am-4pm

Coffee snobs will love the house-blends and rotating specials, many of which are from Thailand and Laos. Those with a sweet tooth can also get high on a Gingerbread Latte or the affogato soft serve (ice cream with an espresso shot).

Brooklyn Baker

Known online for its pretty (and tasty!) custom-made cakes, Brooklyn Baker also feeds this town some great brunch dishes in its casual, lowkey space, set in the lobby of an upmarket spa down Soi Polo. It’s not just about oh-so-popular eggs Benedict and smashed avo. The signature egg rothko with its runny yolk, bacon and cheddar, as well as their caspicum-rich, sausage-stuffed shakshuka are both excellent. Visit on the weekeneds to taste their chicken waffle.

Retreat on Vithayu Spa, 51/7 Soi Polo, Wireless Rd., 081-855-7090. Open Thu-Sun 8am-5pm; Mon 8am-5pm; Tue 8am-5pm

Clinton Street Baking Company

New York magazine called the pancakes at this cafe’s mother branch the Big Apple’s finest. Drop by first thing (it opens two hours before the rest of the mall) to enjoy stacks of soft, syrup-drenched pancakes, fried chicken and decadent fudge brownies. Thanks to its own private entrance, you could truly be dining at a stand-alone.

Crepes & Co.

Bangkok’s original home-style brunch spot is all about fuss-free food that works just as well for a casual date as a family lunch. In addition to the array of sweet and savory crepes, the frequent Spanish, Greek and Moroccan promotions are highly anticipated.

Gallery Drip Coffee

The two photographers behind this joint, Piyachart Trithaworn and Natthiti Ampriwan, take their coffee so seriously that they source and roast the beans themselves. As the name suggests, it’s all about the drip brew method here. The menu is short, as the owners are advocates of single-origin beans, sourced from places like Yemen and Kenya. But they’re also big believers in empowering their baristas, who we’ve noticed are really knowledgeable, friendly and passionate.

BACC, Rama 1 Rd., 081-989- 5244, 081-917-2131. BTS National Stadium. Open Tue-Sun 11am-9pm

Open House

A giant book store, co-working space and collection of cafes, bars and restaurants— this huge revamp of a luxury shopping mall’s top floor is many things. The space flows from one creative nook to another, passing art exhibitions and crafty workshops. When you’re feeling healthy, grab an acai bowl at Broccoli Revolution. When you’re not, pull up onto Peppina’s outdoor terrace and order a Negroni to go with an exceptional Neapolitan-style pizza.

6/F, Central Embassy, Phloen Chit Rd., 02-119-7777. BTS Phloen Chit. Open Sun-Thu 10am-10pm; Fri-Sat 10am-midnight

Siwilai Cafe

Attached to one of the coolest multilabel stores in town, this high-end take on coffee culture doesn’t just serve up quality brews from local roaster Pacamara. It’ll also pour a decent cocktail, including the likes of Re-charge (gin, vanilla, demerara syrup, melon, cucumber and lime). Food charts breakfast fare like Thai rice porridge with braised pork belly, poached eggs, pickled radish and garlic.

5/F, Central Embassy, 1031 Phloen Chit Rd., 02-160- 5836. BTS Chit Lom. Open daily 10am-10pm

WWA

Tucked at the back of an achingly hip fashion boutique, the space epitomizes minimal loft style, while English chef Davina Pickering turns out a solid menu of pastas, salads and pancakes. The berry cream cheese French toast balances sweet and savory just right with Italian sausage, crispy bacon and scrambled eggs making for a bona-fide stomach filler.

3/F, 428 Siam Square Soi 7, 02-658-4686. BTS Siam. Open daily 1-9pm
