1. Bold Thai flavors at Benjarong

Chef Morten Nielsen opened at one of the boldest Thai restaurants in Bangkok, Sra Bua (see below) before moving on to revamp the Dusit Thani hotel's most traditional dining institution, Benjarong. Here, his menu retains everything people know and love about the flavors and textures of Thai cuisine, while bringing it into the 21st century with considerate modern touches and European slow-cooking methods. Benjarong's six-course Christmas set dinner is priced at B2,399, while the family-style sharing festive set dinner (available Dec 24-27) is B1,599 per person. On New Year's Eve, the restaurant offers a sharing set dinner at B2,599 per person and a seven-course set dinner for B3,399.

Sure, you don't know what you're going to be served, but guessing is half the fun! This Christmas, the restaurant serves a four-course surprise dinner including a welcome glass of bubbly at B2,200.

4. An extravagant Indian feast at Rang Mahal

This stately Indian restaurant atop the Rembrandt hotel has long ranked as one of Bangkok's most outstanding Indian restaurants. Not just by virtue of the food—though that is fantastic—but also the oppulent setting with its wonderful views. Starting at 8pm on Dec 31, their Happy New Year Bollywood Style party features a buffet of kebabs, seafood and curries at B3,500 (B5,500 including beers, wines and spirits).

The leading light on Bangkok's contemporary Thai dining scene hails from Copenhagen's Michelin-starred Kiin Kiin, and specializes in the height of modern gastronomy. A curry might come with the texture and temperature of ice cream, and bites of lobster can be locked into gelatinous pearls that melt in your mouth with a sip of tom yam broth. The eight-course degustation menu this Christmas Eve (Dec 24 only) costs B3,800, while the eleven-course New Year's Eve dinner is priced at B5,200.
