Last December, we reported that the US-hailing Huy Fong Sriracha sauce was finally available for purchase here in Thailand.

Until now, though, the infamous "rooster sauce" has been limited to Lazada, Tops Market Central Chidlom, Chiang Mai's Rimping markets and a smattering of standalone restaurants.

As of Jun 22, the importers say Huy Fong Sriracha can be found at branches of Gourmet Market, Villa Market and Home Fresh Mart all around the country.

The price for a small bottle (266ml) is B95 and big bottle (435ml) is B170.

While the name is familiar, the popular hot sauce recognizable by its rooster logo and signature green cap is not to be confused with the local variation, though both take their name from the Sriracha region in Eastern Thailand.

Created by a Vietnamese native who migrated to the US, this hot sauce is often characterized by its hot and sour taste (owing to Californian red jalapenos) as opposed to its sweeter Thai counterpart.

The original announcement of the sauce's arrival in Thailand was met with a mix of antipathy and even hostility. One of our Facebook commenters likened it to selling ice cubes to eskimos.

For the record, we think it offers some different qualities to our homegrown Sriracha sauces, with its grainy texture and lingering heat on the palate and nose. See how it compares in our recent Sriracha taste test.
