Following Studio Ghibli's demise, former producer Nishimura Yoshiaki has joined forces with several other ex-Ghibli animators to found Studio Ponocwhich debuts its first animated film, Mary and the Witch’s Flower (メアリと魔女の花) on 14 September 2017 in Thailand.

Based on the book The Little Broomstick by Mary Stewart, the film follows a young girl who is given the powers of a witch for only one night.

Its director, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, is also the force behind Arrietty and  the two Oscar-nominated films The Tale of Princess Kaguya (2014) and When Marnie was There (2016).
