Packed with action, comedy and romance, the fourth installment of the Ice Age franchise sees Blue Sky Studios uphold its well-earned reputation. It looks great with stunning color and incredible graphics, while directors Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier have kept the entire family in mind with classic entertainment for the kids and plenty of gags for the adults.

As expected, the film starts with disaster: the continents are drifting, leaving Manny and his herd stranded in the middle of the ocean floating away from everything they know and love. Determined to get back home at any cost, the group of friends are set for their most challenging adventure yet. Being attacked by pirates, battling storms and gaining new members of their crew is just the start of what turns into a rollicking journey.

Arguably the storyline doesn’t quite live up to previous installments but it’s compensated for by the brilliant and often adorable new additions to the gang, including Pirate Captain Gutt and Manny and Ellie’s 19-year-old daughter Peaches. And Queen Latifa, Nicki Minaj and Drake are just some of the additions to the star-studded cast, which also includes Jennifer Lopez who takes center stage for the musical finale.

It all looks great in 3D with enough water spilling out of the screen and animals flying at you to keep the entire audience on their toes. And with plenty of laughs thrown in it could well be the best movie in the series. It might also be the last, as it certainly wraps up plenty of unanswered questions giving a sense of completion to the whole saga. If this is in fact Manny, Sid and Diego’s final fling, then they definitely haven’t gone out quietly.
