Celebrating its 30 anniversary, the Thai Film Archive is hosting its first ever Silent Film Festival in Thailand, selecting seven films to be screened and accompanied by renowned pianists Maud Nelissen (Netherlands) and Mie Yanashita (Japan), who have performed at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival.

The Silent Hitchcock
Professor Charles Barr, co-author of the book Hitchcock: Lost and Found, will hold a public lecture regarding the director.

The Pleasure Garden (1925)



Alfred Hitchcock’s debut film is based on a novel by Oliver Sandys which revolves around the troubled relationships of two London chorus girls.

The Ring (1927)



Hitchcock’s only original screenplay centers on a love triangle where a fairground boxer’s lover falls for another professional boxer. The film features the notable techniques the director later employs in the famous boxing scene in The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Prix de Beaute (1930)



Directed by Augusto Genina, the film stars the famed silent-film actress Louise Brooks as a beautiful typist who enters the Miss Europe pageant, only to struggle to come to terms with her jealous lover.

The Little Toys (1933)


Ranked by Hong Kong Film Awards in 2005 as among the 100 best Chinese films, Sun Yu’s film stars Ruan Lingyu as a maker of traditional toys.

The Lodger (1927)



On Aug 13 (8pm) at Scala, the screening of the Hitchcock’s silent film about a landlady who believes her new lodger is the psychopath that killed women around London. Film will be accompanied by music from Trisdee Na Patalung.
