A pleasant surprise, The Drums gig on Tue night (May 24) was completely sold out (albeit somewhat last minute), sending a lot of disgruntled hipsters scrambling for tickets in front of Muse (which, by the way, was a cozy and nicely-packed venue for an intimate gig—who knew). The band, led by front man Jonny Pierce and his adorable camp swag, treated us to their reverb-heavy repertoire, opening with a lesser known “What You Were,” before giving us a string of hit tunes like “Me and the Moon,” “My Best Friend,” as well as their new single “Money.” The gig was followed by the very badass Gene Kasidit and Club Soma DJs whose dancey sets kept the remaining indie kids jumping well into the night. Big props to the folks at Lullaby Entertainment for continuing to delight us with great acts (remember Kings of Convenience, Vampire Weekend and, most recently, Herbie Hancock?) and Federbrau for jumping on board and promise to regularly bring more quality bands to our town. We are holding our breaths.
