In what is gearing up to be one of the most intriguing new venues to hit Bangkok in a long time, especially for craft beer lovers, we have more news on the upcoming launch of the new Mikkeller Bangkok bar this Wednesday (Jan 29).

Following the artisanal theme of the bar itself, the launch party will see two of the local scene's artisanal heavyweights, organic butchers Sloane's and master bakers Maison Jean Philippe, laying on a spread of rustic treats ranging from smoked pig's head in a bun, beetroot duck eggs and beer-stewed duck and prune doughnuts to beer-braised pork crumble.

They’ll be accompanying a total of 30 different draught beers available on the night, with some in very limited supply.

Why is this opening a big deal for Bangkok? Well, for the uninitiated, Mikkeller is one of the first “gypsy” microbrewers, which means they produce unique brews around the world in other people’s breweries, and is recognized for its experimental approach, limited batches and for challenging expectations.

Their success has seen them open bars in their home town of Copenhagen and hipster haven of San Fransico but thanks to a friendship with Jakob of local importer Hopsession and a love of all things Thai, Bangkok can boast the very first Mikkeller bar in Asia–beating Tokyo and Hong Kong to the punch for once.

The event is open to anyone and starts from 5pm, so don’t be late as this could be an only chance to try some very unique beers.

Mikkeler Bangkok is at 26 Ekkamai Soi 10, Yaek 2 and you can find out more at www.facebook.com/mikkellerbangkok.
