As the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament kicks off, why not consider those football players who don’t (yet) drive a Porsche Cayman. Since 2007, the Support Young Footballers in Need has offered a place to play football, train and some much needed role models for some 100 boys in the notorious Klong Toei slum. Most of them are 7-16 years old but the program also involves some young men from 16-30 years old, a number of whom act as coaches. Klong Toey FC reports significant improvements in these young men’s lives thanks to the club, keeping them away from the drugs, gangs and violence that plague the slums. The club won the under 16s Bangkok Youth League last year but obviously need all the financial support they can get, particularly since they have plans to develop the program for girls and expand to the Rom Gow end of the slum. Donate any amount, or sponsor one child to play for B6,000/year including uniform, transport, tournament fees and food. Send payments to UNOH Bangkok in the names of Ashley Barker, Rodney Sheard and Christopher MacCartney. Account 175-4-186987, Bangkok Bank. www.facebook.com/pages/Klong-Toey-Football-Club/
