Not content with unearthing luk thung and molam gems with Zudrangma Records and his Paradise Bangkok nights, DJ Maft Sai has just opened a new bar where he promises to pair global grooves with quality drinks. Studio Lam (open Tue-Sun 5.30pm-1am) joins the happening Sukhumvit Soi 51 neighborhood—here’s how to make an afternoon of it without leaving the street.

STYLE

Get a haircut at Never Say Cutz

Nothing like a close shave to start the day and Never Say Cutz still do the closest in the business, not least because they make use of old-school straight razors. Founded by Way, one-third of local hip-hop trio Thaitanium, the focus is on street cuts and shaves. But if you’re a little sensitive about the shape of your head, they also do casual cuts. A shampoo and cut starts at B400.

927 Sukhumvit 51, 02-662-6781. Open daily 9am-9pm. BTS Thong Lo.

DINNER

Eat at Teriyaki Bar Kelly’s

If your trips to Sukhumvit Soi 51 usually coincide with a meal at Jess Barnes’ Opposite Mess Hall, chances are you’ve tried the “specials” board three times over. Shake things up with a visit to Teriyaki Bar Kelly’s around the corner. If the vibrant 50s-style décor and warm, welcoming staff don’t win you over, the teriyaki skewers should. Leave it to the chef to select your sticks of grilled meat (B315/five, B498/eight), while you guzzle the “bottomless” Asahi promotion (B400/person/120min).

46 Sukhumvit Soi 51, 02-662-5155. Open Tue-Sun 5pm-midnight. BTS Thong Lo.

ART

Check out the exhibition at WTF Gallery & Café

Here’s a novel idea, while you’re waiting for your friends in order to make a fashionably late appearance at Studio Lam, head to the upper floors of WTF for Makha Sanewong Na Ayuthaya’s ongoing installation. Running through Sep 21, Unidentified Familiar Object gathers mundane objects, such as school chairs and desks, tin weighing scales and angle-poise lamps, to have you questioning your very presence at an art exhibition.

7 Sukhumvit Soi 51, 02-662-6246. Open Tue-Sun 6pm-1am. BTS Thong Lo.
