Title: “Hey You”
Artist: Cyndi Seui
Label: Smallroom/Kitsch Cat
Released in March, “Hey You” is the latest electro-pop single by Cesar Guzman, a Thai-born Filipino DJ and producer with numerous records under his name at Smallroom and his own label Kitsch Cat (Gramaphone Children and Apolo). With his passion for vintage synthesizers, Cyndi Seui’s “Hey You” has a clear and easy sound with a touch of funk. If you don’t know much about Thai electro-pop, just think Breakbot.

Title: “Mai Mee Kam Tob”
Artist: Cut The Crab
Label: Box Records
One of our bands to watch in 2014, Cut The Crab finally rolls out its new single “Mai Mee Kam Tob” after having performed it at many gigs (EESE 2014, Noise and Pop Circuit) over the first half of the year. This single sees a significant shift in sound as the noise and harsh electronics are toned down and replaced by bright electro-pop beats with the help of guest female vocals. This might be because the band now officially works with Box Records, which is run by Sumate Kittanasopa, aka Yaak Lab (the same people behind last year’s much-loved “Sakod Jai,” sung by Preawa). Nice move. We’re quite sure they’ll come out with more interesting stuff soon.

Title: “Octopussy”
Artist: Gym and Swim
Label: Independent
If brother-and-sister folk-pop band Plastic Plastic is too sweet and not your cup of tea, we recommend you try Gym and Swim, which is similar but with a deeper sound. One half of Plastic Plastic, Pokpong Jitdee, teams up with his friends for this vintage pop band, whose first single is called “Octopussy.” What seems like a normal pop song catches our attention for its multidimensional sound courtesy of a full band. A very interesting listen.

Title: “Tender Mind”
Artist: Hariguem Zaboy
Label: Panda Records
Soon after this four-piece shoegaze band’s launch party for their debut album “Think Mink,” held last month at Harmonica, they released their second single, “Tender Mind.” While the first single, “Anybody Feels,” is an upbeat tune, the second single is toned down and a little darker, like a Thai version of Slowdive. The warm beat plays on a loop, while the refrain, “Leaving to be free/Needing to be seen/Dreaming to keen/Breeding to be seen” will get everyone humming along in no time.
