(UK) In the tradition of Atonement, Brideshead Revisted is a ravishing and entertaining modern adaptation of a classic tale set in early 20th century Britain. Adapted from the Evelyn Waugh book of the same name, this version by Julian Jarrod (Kinky Boots) has a lot to live up to, but succeeds because it chooses to concentrate on the complicated and touching love stories at hand rather than the religious themes that permeated other adaptations like the BBC miniseries directed by the late Laurence Olivier 30 years ago.
